  The year 2026 began with a new chapter and a decision that felt both exciting and meaningful. After months of joining events, meeting fellow Indonesians, and forming friendships, I finally chose to take a step further by becoming an official member of PPI UKM.  I applied and was accepted into the Intellectual Division, a branch that focuses on academic programs, knowledge-sharing, and development activities. For me, it was a source of pride, because not only I could contribute something useful, but also because it meant I was becoming more involved in the Indonesian community abroad. Starting the year with this new responsibility made 2026 feel promising. It marked not only the beginning of a new academic life but also the beginning of a journey filled with opportunities, challenges, and stories that would eventually become valuable memories.   As the end of the year approached, our group consists of Indonesian friends wanted to do something special to celebrate. Instead of fireworks, crowded malls, or city celebrations, we decided to welcome the new year in our own way, by going to the beach. Actually, I’m not celebrating New Year’s, but I just want to enjoy and spent time with my friends.  On December 31, we gathered in KIZ and departed around 8 p.m. with three cars. There were about fifteen of us in total, excited and slightly chaotic as we organized rides and made sure no one was left behind.  When we finally arrived at Port Dickson, the beach atmosphere was very peaceful and the sound of waves makes me felt calm. We found a comfortable spot and settled down, forming small circles to talk, laugh, and play simple games.   One morning, we attended a PPI event at UKM KL. The program ran smoothly and finished around midday. After the event ended, we stood outside wondering what to do next. At first, the plan was simple, just return to Bangi and rest. But, halfway through the UKM, one of my friend gave us an idea to go to UM (University Malaya).  It was spontaneous and yet somehow very fitting. For many of us, UM had always been one of our dream universities, a place we had admired from a distance long before coming to Malaysia. So instead of heading home, we took a turn and made our way to the UM campus We arrived around 3 p.m., and the campus greeted us with a calm and academic atmosphere. The facilities were impressive, modern yet grounded with a sense of history and prestige.   One night, me and my friend were sitting doing our assignment. The room was quiet, I’m busy doing my marketing assignment and my friend completing his architect drawings assignment. After a few hours and finished our task, we thought about find some chill place around Kuala Lumpur. But, it already at 11pm which means there is not many cafe or any quiet places for us to chill. But somehow, my friend said “why don’t we go to Genting” and we haven’t went to Genting before.  It was impulsive, unreasonable, and completely unplanned. Especially considering the time it was already midnight. But that was what made it exciting.  By the time we reached Genting, it was close to 2 a.m. The night air was cold and refreshing, and the city below sparkled like a sea of lights. We found a quiet spot, sat down on the car bonnet, and simply appreciated the view. The city lights shimmered in the distance, and for a moment, it refresh our brain from stressful assignment. In November, KIZ held a bowling competition at Bangi Gateway. When we first heard about it, we didn’t feel too excited. Bowling wasn’t something we played often, and most of us didn’t even know how to play bowling properly. But since the event was free and open to residents, we decided to join anyway. After all, trying something new together is always more fun than staying in the dorm . Once the game began, our predictions were correct. The balls rolled to wrong direction and only few ball hit the target. Some more landed in the gutter immediately, some hit just one or two pins, and once in a while someone would accidentally score a strike and shout in disbelief. Even though we weren’t the best players, the competition turned out to be fun. In the end, we didn’t win any prizes, but its doesn’t matter. What we gained was the experience, the laughter, and the memory of doing something new together.

  On around 16 November 2025, PPI organized another gathering for Indonesian students. This time, it was a dinner event specifically for the new batch of Indonesian student. The theme was fun and unexpected, everyone was supposed to cosplay as fictional characters. For many, it was a chance to dress up creatively and show a bit of personality.  However, the male, us, preferred something simpler. Instead of elaborate costumes, we decided to wear batik. It felt neat, comfortable, and still represented a piece of Indonesian identity. While others wore capes, wigs, or playful accessories, we arrived in patterned batik shirts. Actually batik also can represent our character from the design or even the pattern or we called it motif batik .  Throughout the night, the program continued with singing sessions, quizzes, and various fun games that kept the room alive. Not long after classes began, this country started to feel more familiar. Friendships grew naturally, especially among Indonesian students who often gathered to talk, eat, and explore. One afternoon, we made a simple plan to go out and eat nasi padang in Kuala Lumpur. It seemed like a short trip, nothing too ambitious just food and conversation.  But, in the middle of the conversation, one of our friends suddenly suggested an unexpected idea  “Why don’t we go to Melaka?” and I don’t know what happen that they everyone said “yes” and very excited. Without any consideration, we got into the car and started a spontaneous road trip to Melaka, a city known for its heritage and history. It took around two hours from Kuala Lumpur.  When we finally arrived, the city greeted us with its beautiful and historical scenery. After finished all of the orientation day and my academic journey began.  My first class was held at Pusanika and while I entered the class, I felt very happy because the class is very comfortable and looks nice. The subject for the day was Statistics, I haven’t took this subject even in my previous campus in Indonesia. I felt confuse and a bit nervous. But, actually I love mathematics, so, it wasn’t that challenging for me.  What stood out most from that day was the feeling the sense of officially beginning my academic life abroad, sitting in one of the best university in Malaysia classroom, surrounded by students from different backgrounds. It was both exciting and meaningful, marking the transition from orientation activities into actual university routines.

  As Indonesian students studying in Malaysia, we united under an organization called PPI (Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia), a student association that serves as a home for Indonesians studying abroad. It became a place where we could share experiences, support one another, and maintain a little piece of Indonesia.  On 11 October 2025, PPI UKM held an event called Maba Day (Mahasiswa Baru Day), specifically designed to introduce the association to Indonesian students. The event welcomed us warmly, with a friendly atmosphere that immediately made many of us feel less like strangers and more like part of a growing community. Throughout the program, PPI leaders and senior students explained the purpose of the organization, its activities, and its role in helping Indonesian students adapt to academic and social life in Malaysia.        After all of MAW or orientation day finished, we as KIZ resident get the opportunity to do KL Tour, by visiting Muzium Negara and KLCC.  Arriving at the museum, we were greeted by a calm and elegant building. Inside, the museum showcased a wide range of collections, historical displays, and economic timelines that told the story of Malaysia’s development over the years. One section focused specifically on the country’s economic conditions, tracing how Malaysia evolved from its early era to a more modern and industrialized economy.  In Muzium Negara there were detailed explanations about inflation in Malaysia, showing how prices, currency value, and cost of living shifted from decade to decade. Graphs, photos, and historical documents helped us understand how different economic policies and global events shaped Malaysia’s financial landscape. On the following MAW day, we were instructed to gather at DECTAR (Dewan Canselor Tun Abdul Razak), one of the largest and most iconic halls in UKM. Walking inside the hall for the first time felt impressive, the atmosphere carried a sense of ceremony and pride. It was the kind of place that made me feel like something important was about to happen. Students from different colleges filled the seats, chatting softly while waiting for the program to begin. When the event started, we listened to speeches from lecturers and university representatives. They spoke about university life, responsibilities, and culture. Even though some parts were serious, the messages felt sincere and encouraging as if reminding us that we were entering a new chapter with purpose. The new semester at UKM had just begun, and everything still felt unfamiliar. I had just settled into Kolej Ibu Zain, a place that would become my temporary home while studying in UKM. It was my first week in Malaysia and first time I joined MAW or orientation week in UKM. First day of MAW, all of us as a KIZ resident were gather in Dewan Sutera which is the big hall in KIZ. In the hall we attended opening ceremonial of the MAW. Actually, this is my first time attended orientation day in one of university in Malaysia.  The highlight came when me and my friend had the chance to take photos with the Naib Canselor of UKM, pengetua Kolej Ibu Zain, and if I’m not mistaken the man using red batik is like head of KMUKM. I felt a meaningful sense of pride. It was the kind of moment that makes me feel like I’m really part of something bigger and it was surprisingly joyful.
